Knut Hansen Dry Gin, produced in a family-run German distillery, combines the traditional art of distillation with the fascinating story of the sailor Knut Hansen. This legendary seafarer, who once sailed the world’s oceans, continues to inspire the essence of this unique gin to this day.

This year’s Knut Hansen Yorokobi Edition pays homage to the culture and nature of Japan. It was born out of an inspiring journey during which not only exclusive botanicals were discovered, but also unforgettable moments and encounters were gathered. The name ‘Yorokobi’ means joy and reflects what this special edition is intended to convey.

The exceptional botanicals include sakura, umeboshi, wasabi, goya cucumber and matcha tea – all characteristic ingredients of Japan. This diversity comes together in a distillate that takes the taste buds on a true adventure. A particular highlight of this edition is the base spirit, which – unlike the classic wheat spirit – is derived from rice, lending the gin a special depth. Rice terraces near Nagasaki were visited, inspiring the cultivation process. The main botanicals were each macerated and distilled separately to allow their flavours to develop to the full.

The bottle design, created by David Stiller, features Shisa lions, torii gates and rice terraces. The Shisa lions, symbolic guardians from Okinawa, represent protection and good fortune, an important part of Japanese culture.

This edition is limited to 4,000 bottles worldwide.

Tasting Note

Colour: Clear.

Nose: Floral, sweet and sour, cherry blossom, bitter melon, fresh Goya cucumbers.

Palate: Earthy, slightly tart, sweet and sour, matcha tea, Goya cucumbers, spicy freshness, floral notes.

Finish: Long-lasting.
