Mount Gay Estate, situated on the Upper Coral Reef Terrace plateau in St Lucy, Barbados, was raised from the sea around 400,000 years ago and boasts an impressive elevation of 150 metres in the east and 105 metres in the west. The estate’s loamy soil lends the sugar cane grown there a distinctive quality.

Mount Gay Single Estate Series Rum #1 is produced from 100 per cent molasses extracted from the estate’s sugar cane. This molasses is characterised by an exceptionally high sugar content of 72 per cent. A proprietary yeast, cultivated at the Mount Gay Estate, is used in the production process. An extended fermentation period of 9 days – compared to the usual 4 days – results in a unique rum featuring a second fermentation. The entire process is carried out 100 per cent using the pot still method, which lends the rum its distinctive complexity.

With just 4,002 numbered bottles, this rum is a true meisterwerk that brings to life the unique flavours and terroir of St Lucy, as well as the exceptional heritage of Mount Gay Rum.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold.

Nose: Fruity, with notes of ripe pears and plums, hints of lemon, nutmeg and oak.

Palate: Ripe bananas and pineapple, oak, star anise, leathery notes.

Finish: Long-lasting.
