The Salzl Sacris Zweigelt Reserve Neusiedlersee DAC 2020 is an authentic, characterful red wine from Burgenland that embodies the very best of the Zweigelt grape variety. Produced by the renowned Salzl Seewinkelhof winery in Illmitz, this wine embodies an uncompromising blend of family tradition, a commitment to terroir and modern winemaking techniques.

The Salzl Sacris is a single-varietal wine made from 100 % Zweigelt grapes, which grow on loamy sandy soils with a high gravel content – known as Paratschernosem – soils renowned for producing powerful and well-structured red wines. Vinification follows a classic approach: traditional maceration in stainless steel tanks at 30 °C, with the must remaining on the skins for 18 days, followed by malolactic fermentation and a long ageing period of 24 months in new oak barrels. Bottled with natural corks and with a ageing potential until 2031, this wine is a high-quality DAC Zweigelt that is both approachable in its youth and has excellent ageing potential.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red colour with a dark core. The bouquet is intense and complex, featuring ripe sour cherries, dark berries and dried plums, accompanied by subtle toasted notes, cedar wood, vanilla and a hint of cocoa bean. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and velvety, with a structure of ripe tannins, harmonious acidity and a dense, elegant body. The long finish is characterised by fruit, spice and refined oak – an expressive Zweigelt with depth and great character.
