Kavalan LÁN Single Malt Whisky is an elegant Taiwanese single malt whisky, created as a tribute to the home of the Kavalan Distillery in Yilan, Taiwan. The name has a special significance, as ‘LÁN’ means ‘orchid’ in Chinese, thereby reflecting Taiwan’s close connection to this plant. The whisky is produced by the renowned Kavalan Distillery, which is known for its characterful single malts and the comparatively intensive maturation process under Taiwan’s climatic conditions. With an alcohol content of 43 per cent, a 0.7-litre bottle and the accompanying gift box, the Kavalan LÁN is a premium bottling that centres on floral elegance and a carefully curated blend of casks.

The Kavalan LÁN Single Malt Whisky 43% combines influences from various cask types. Bourbon casks contribute fresh vanilla notes in particular, whilst port casks provide nutty and fruity accents. The blend is complemented by STR wine casks, which lend the whisky caramel-like and fruity sweetness as well as additional woody aromas. STR stands for ‘Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred’ and refers to specially treated wine casks, the wood of which interacts particularly intensely with the maturing distillate as a result of this process. The result is a Kavalan Whisky aged in bourbon, port and STR casks, which combines floral and fruity notes with creamy sweetness, nutty notes and subtle woody spice. Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber with warm highlights.

Nose: Complex and floral with notes of orchid, rose, jasmine, peony and orange blossom, complemented by creamy vanilla, chocolate, caramel, cantaloupe melon and fruit jellies, as well as subtle hints of nuts and cinnamon.

Palate: Fresh and elegant with floral and fruity flavours that blend with creamy, chocolatey and caramel-like nuances, as well as sweet, nutty woody tones.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious with nuts, cinnamon, subtle woody spice and a delicate, lingering fruity sweetness.

Kavalan LÁN Single Malt Whisky is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C, allowing the floral and fruity facets of the various cask types to unfold fully. It pairs well with roasted almonds and hazelnuts, mild to medium-strength cheeses, and dark or lightly salted chocolate.
