The Tamdhu 12 Years Old Speyside Single Malt Limited Release 43% ABV is a prime example of the consistently sherry-influenced style of the historic Tamdhu Distillery in Speyside. The distillery was founded in 1897 near Knockando and is now part of Ian Macleod Distillers. For this 12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky, Tamdhu relies entirely on maturation in carefully selected Oloroso sherry casks from Spain. Both first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry casks made from American and European oak are used. Thanks to its exclusive maturation in sherry casks, the whisky develops a particularly harmonious blend of dried fruit, sweet spice, malt and delicate oak, without any additional finishing overwhelming its fundamental character.

At 43% ABV, the Tamdhu 12 Years Old Limited Release is smooth yet aromatically complex. The Speyside character is evident in its fruity sweetness, notes of pastry and an elegant cask-derived spiciness, whilst the long Oloroso sherry cask maturation lends additional depth and structure. Particularly noteworthy are its natural colour and the absence of chill filtration, which ensures that the whisky’s original character remains as unadulterated as possible. Tasting Note

Colour: Natural gold to amber.

Nose: Inviting, with notes of cinnamon biscuits, sweet oak and candied orange, complemented by raisins and a subtle hint of mint.

Palate: Silky and rounded with banana, malt biscuits and classic sherry sweetness, accompanied by ripe fruit and spicy oak.

Finish: Long-lasting and balanced with ground spices, dried fruit, a delicate sweetness and a very subtle smoky note.

The Tamdhu 12 Years Old reveals its sherry cask aromas best when enjoyed neat at room temperature or with a few drops of still water. It pairs particularly well with mature cheese, roasted almonds or dried fruit, which bring out its nutty and fruity notes. For desserts, fruit tarts, raisin biscuits, caramel biscuits or dark chocolate are particularly good accompaniments. A nosing glass helps to bring out the complex Oloroso sherry aromas.
