The Bowmore LEGEND Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 40% ABV, 0.7 l, is a characterful Scottish single malt whisky from the island of Islay, combining the region’s traditional smokiness with a balanced maritime note. It is produced at the historic Bowmore Distillery, which was founded in 1779 and is considered the oldest active whisky distillery on Islay. The distillery is situated directly on Loch Indaal and is renowned for its peated single malt whiskies. Bowmore Legend is made from malted barley and matures predominantly in American oak casks, particularly ex-bourbon casks. The bottling has no age statement (Non Age Statement) and embodies the distillery’s classic style. With an alcohol content of 40% vol., this smoky Islay whisky is available in a 0.7-litre bottle.

The Bowmore Legend Single Malt was added to the distillery’s range in 1994 and is one of the house’s best-known classic bottlings. Although production has since ceased, this Islay single malt Scotch whisky remains an interesting discovery for lovers of traditional Scottish whiskies. Its production is closely linked to the history of the Bowmore Distillery, which to this day operates its own traditional malting floors and thus processes part of its barley malt itself. The combination of traditional whisky-making, peated malt and bourbon cask maturation defines the distinctive character of the Bowmore Legend. As a bottling no longer in regular production, it is also of interest to collectors and enthusiasts of classic Bowmore whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm golden yellow with pale amber highlights.

Nose: Gentle peaty smoke, a fresh sea breeze, subtle malt notes and a hint of citrus freshness.

Palate: Smooth and well-balanced, with sweet honey, fresh lemon zest, creamy vanilla and a pleasant maritime smokiness.

Finish: Warming and pleasantly spicy, with lingering peat smoke, subtle oak spice and a hint of saltiness.

The Bowmore Legend Islay Single Malt is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass, so that its smoky and maritime facets can unfold. A few drops of still water can further enhance the balance between peaty smoke, honeyed sweetness and citrus freshness. As a culinary accompaniment, smoked salmon, tangy Cheddar or grilled seafood harmonise beautifully with the characteristic coastal notes. Dark chocolate, roasted almonds or spicy BBQ dishes also complement the smoky aromas of this classic Islay single malt whisky.
