The history of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, better known as CVNE, began in 1879 in the town of Haro, one of Spain's most famous wine centres. The initials of the company were used for the name, but a simple spelling mistake, where the "V" was mistaken for a "U", resulted in the brand name "CUNE". Ironically, this mistake led to the creation of one of the leading wine brands on the national market today.

The company's wine production takes place in El Pilar, the first facility in Spain specifically designed for wine production. The Cune Rioja Reserva uses grapes from the prestigious Caballero, Santo Tomás and Sarnamoros wineries, located in the prestigious Rioja Alta region, in the towns of Rodezno, Villalba and Haro.

The grapes first ferment in a 20,000 kg stainless steel tank. After fermentation, the wine undergoes heat maceration before remaining in the tank for 18 months. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation, which gives it a velvety texture. Finally, the wine is matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels, which gives the wine its complex flavour and balanced structure. These careful processes contribute to the Cune Rioja Reserva offering an unrivalled taste experience that delights both connoisseurs and gourmets.

Tasting Note

Dark garnet red in the glass. Fruity and spicy on the nose, notes of liquorice and fresh forest fruits. Balanced on the palate with a fine tannin structure. Long and persistent on the finish.

An ideal accompaniment to braised lamb as well as hard and semi-hard cheeses.
