The Aberlour A'BUNADH Original Cask Strength Batch No. 81 is a robust Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, whose name is derived from Gaelic and roughly translates as ‘from the source’. The A’Bunadh range is based on an original, particularly authentic style of whisky and is bottled in individual batches. It is produced using water from the clear springs of Ben Rinnes and carefully selected barley. A’Bunadh does not carry an age statement; instead, the focus is on intensive cask maturation. The whisky matures in large Spanish Oloroso sherry butts, with Aberlour specifically selecting the Spanish sherry casks and filling them with whisky for the first time. This allows the intense influences of the casks, previously filled with Oloroso sherry, to have a particularly pronounced effect on the single malt during maturation.


Batch No. 81 is bottled directly at an impressive 61.6% in original cask strength. Furthermore, it is bottled without chill filtration and in its natural colour, ensuring that the whisky’s character remains as unadulterated as possible. The combination of first-fill Oloroso sherry butts, original cask strength, natural colour and non-chill filtration is one of the defining characteristics of Aberlour A’Bunadh. Thanks to its long maturation in Spanish sherry casks, the whisky develops a particularly intense blend of fruit, chocolate, spices and oak. The unique character of each batch also makes A’Bunadh Batch No. 81 of particular interest to lovers of full-bodied sherry cask whiskies and collectors of the various A’Bunadh bottlings. Tasting Note

Colour: Deep, rich amber.

Nose: Juicy orange, praline and milk chocolate, accompanied by intense spices and zesty orange notes.

Palate: Powerful and full-bodied, with dark chocolate, ripe black cherries and spicy Ingwerer.

Finish: Long-lasting and well-balanced, with dark fruit, spices and a subtle oak finish.

Aberlour A’Bunadh Batch No. 81 is best served at around 18–20 °C and, due to its high cask strength, can be tasted neat to begin with and then with a few drops of still water. This allows you to adjust the intensity to your own taste and further explore the distinctive Oloroso sherry cask characteristics. It pairs well with dark chocolate, black cherries, roasted walnuts or mature hard cheese. Desserts featuring orange, ginger or dark chocolate also complement the intense profile of this cask-strength Speyside single malt perfectly.
