The Schwarz Kumarod Cuvée Red 2021 is a powerful, characterful red wine from Burgenland that impressively demonstrates why the Hans Schwarz winery is regarded as one of Austria’s most exciting red wine estates. This cuvée is an expression of passion, craftsmanship and regional terroir – a wine with depth, power and personality. The Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and Merlot grape varieties form the basis of this exceptional wine and are cultivated on the mineral-rich soils around Andau, where hot days and cool nights ensure perfect ripeness and aromatic intensity.


The grapes are carefully harvested by hand, gently processed and fermented in stainless-steel tanks before maturing further in wooden barrels. Thanks to this careful ageing process, the Kumarod Cuvée Red combines the fruit and freshness of Burgenland with elegant spice and a harmonious structure. The result is a wine that embodies the modern style of Austrian red wines – powerful yet refined, dense yet never ponderous.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Schwarz Kumarod Cuvée Red 2021 displays a dark ruby-garnet colour with violet highlights. On the nose, intense aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums unfold, underpinned by subtle notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied, juicy and elegant, with ripe, soft tannins and a refined, spicy structure. The dense fruitiness of blackberries and damsons is accompanied by subtle toasted notes, whilst the finish is long-lasting, harmonious and slightly mineral.

The Schwarz Kumarod Cuvée Red 2021 is a versatile accompaniment to grilled or braised meat, lamb dishes, game and mature cheeses. It pairs particularly well with grilled steak, beef roulades or pasta with rich meat sauces. Served at a drinking temperature of 16–18 °C, it reveals its full range of flavours. It is ready to drink from 2025 to 2032, though it gains further depth and harmony with extended ageing. A Burgenland wine with character, masterfully combining fruit, spice and elegance.
