Description
Description
The company was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot and has since specialised in the production of champagne, with a focus on the Pinot Noir grape variety. Following the death of her husband, Francois Clicquot, just two years after their marriage, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin took over the management of the company in 1810. In 1986, Veuve Clicquot merged with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy. Jacques Peters is currently the company’s chief winemaker. Veuve Clicquot’s motto, both then and now, is: ‘Only one quality – the best’.
This cuvée consists of 50–55% Pinot Noir, 28–33% Chardonnay and 15–20% Meunier. The dominant grape variety gives this champagne power and structure, whilst the Chardonnay lends it elegance, freshness and delicacy. The touch of Meunier enhances the marvellous fruity nuances.
Depending on the vintage, the reserve wines account for 30 to 45 per cent of the blend. These come from up to six different harvests and are stored in separate vats by grape variety, by cru and by vintage.
This Yellow Label is aged for 12 months in wooden barrels, which gives the Champagne its unique roundness. The Champagne is bottled in bottles sealed with a natural cork and has a ageing potential of around 3 years.
Tasting Note
In the glass, Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Yellow Label displays a radiant, golden-yellow colour with a lively perlage that emphasises its freshness and elegance. On the nose, a finely nuanced bouquet unfolds, featuring white fruits, ripe pears and apples, accompanied by delicate citrus notes and a hint of brioche, indicating its long ageing on the lees. On the palate, the champagne is well-balanced and structured, offering a harmonious blend of freshness and richness. The fruity aromas are complemented by hints of vanilla, toasted almonds and subtle mineral notes. The finish is long-lasting, lively and elegant, with a refined complexity typical of the House of Veuve Clicquot.
Grape varieties: Chardonnay 28%, Pinot Noir 56%, Pinot Meunier 16%
Residual sugar: 10 g/l
Acidity: 5.4 g/l

Ageing potential: 3–4 years
Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label is excellent as an aperitif, but also shows its true class when paired with fine cuisine. It is particularly recommended with fine sushi, fresh oysters or scallops. It also pairs beautifully with creamy cheeses such as a mature Brie or Chaource. For those who prefer something a little more sophisticated, it can be served with a pan-fried guinea fowl breast with a citrus reduction or a light fish terrine. A Tarte Tatin with a hint of vanilla is recommended as a dessert pairing.
