Description
Description
The Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay 2024 is an elegant and well-balanced white wine from the renowned Penfolds, one of Australia’s most famous wineries. This Chardonnay blend originates from the cooler wine-growing regions of South Australia and was vinified with the aim of achieving a perfect balance of freshness, finesse and drinkability. For decades, the Koonunga Hill Linie has been synonymous at Penfolds with quality, consistency and excellent value for money – and this vintage delivers exactly that.
The winemaking process combines modern cellar techniques with the targeted use of oak: part of the fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, whilst a small proportion is aged in oak barrels. This gives the wine a harmonious structure, whilst preserving the Chardonnay’s varietal character and emphasising its fruity freshness. With an alcohol content of 13 % vol., the wine is ideal for any occasion – from a stylish aperitif to a versatile accompaniment to food.
The Koonunga Hill Chardonnay 2024 is a wine for connoisseurs seeking an approachable, aromatic yet characterful white wine of international calibre.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Chardonnay glows with a pale golden-yellow colour and greenish highlights. The nose is inviting, with aromas of yellow apple, white peach, honeydew melon and citrus, accompanied by hints of vanilla, toasted wood and a buttery creaminess. On the palate, a round, fruit-forward body unfolds with fine acidity, a pleasant smoothness and a slightly nutty, elegantly mineral finish, perfectly rounded off by subtle oaky notes.
The Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay 2024 pairs superbly with grilled fish, poultry with lemon butter, Asian cuisine featuring coconut and Ingwerer, pasta with a cream sauce, and mature soft cheeses. It also reveals its full character when enjoyed on its own as a well-chilled aperitif. Recommended serving temperature: 8–10 °C – for a complex, fresh Chardonnay experience from Australia with a global reputation.
