The Foursquare Détente 10 Years Old is a limited-edition release from the renowned Exceptional Cask Selection at the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados. As a classic single blended rum, it combines pot still and column still distillates, lending it remarkable depth, structure and elegance – a hallmark of Master Distiller Richard Seale’s signature style.

This edition was matured for a full 10 years in a tropical climate, with ageing taking place in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-port casks. The latter impart additional fruity and complex aromas to the rum, without losing the oakiness and the typical Barbados character. With an alcohol content of 51% vol., the Détente was bottled at cask strength – naturally without sugar, colourings or additives. The result is a rum with a distinctive profile that successfully combines elegance and expressiveness.

The term ‘Détente’ – French for ‘relaxation’ or ‘policy of détente’ – emphasises the harmonious interplay between the two types of cask, which give the rum its distinctive balance.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark gold with reddish highlights.

Nose: Harmonious and rounded, with aromas of plums, red berries, oak, vanilla, mocha and dried fruit.

Palate: Well-balanced with notes of dried fruit, dark chocolate, caramelised sugar, spices and a subtle hint of wood.

Finish: Long, smooth and pleasantly dry with spicy, fruity and slightly nutty nuances.

DÉTENTE reveals its full range of flavours best when enjoyed neat at room temperature or with a few drops of water. Paired with fruity, nutty desserts, fine dark chocolate or mature hard cheese, it offers a harmonious taste experience. This rum is also the perfect accompaniment to a mild cigar.
