The St. Kilian ULTRA HEAVILY PEATED Single Malt Whisky is an uncompromising bottling for lovers of intense smokiness. With an extreme phenol content of 91 ppm, this whisky ranks amongst the smokiest single malts produced worldwide – yet it does not come from Scotland, but from the German St. Kilian Distillers distillery in Rüdenau, Franconia. Produced using heavily peated Scottish barley malt and distilled in classic pot stills, this bottling impressively demonstrates just how powerful German whisky can be.

Maturation took place in a balanced blend of ex-bourbon barrels and virgin American oak casks, which add a sweet, spicy depth and subtle woody notes to the intense peaty smoke. With a high alcohol content of 59.7 % vol., this whisky has been bottled at cask strength – naturally without chill filtration or colouring. A full-bodied, explosive expression that interprets the spirit of Islay in a German way.

Tasting Note

Colour: Intense gold with a slight reddish sheen.

Nose: Dominant peat smoke, ash and tar, paired with vanilla, caramel, leather and dark spices.

Palate: Powerful, smoky and spicy with flavours of BBQ, charred wood, sweet oak, dark chocolate and black pepper.

Finish: Very long, dry and smoky with notes of embers, espresso and maritime spice.

This whisky is best enjoyed neat in small sips or with a few drops of water to balance the complex smoky and cask notes. It pairs well with grilled beef, smoked cheese or dark bitter chocolate. It is also ideal as an accompaniment to a full-bodied cigar.
