The LAGG Small Batch Single Malt Scotch Whisky ex-Palo Cortado Sherry Cask 56.2% vol. 0.7 l + GB is a powerful small-batch bottling from the Lagg Distillery on the Scottish Isle of Arran and is regarded as the distillery’s first small-batch edition worldwide. Concerto barley is used for this characterful bottling; it is heavily peated to around 50 ppm during the kilning process, thereby shaping the distillery’s distinctive, smoky house style. Upon delivery, the barley is crushed and processed in the mash tun to form a cloudy mash, which gives the resulting distillate a particularly oily and robust texture. Subsequent fermentation with selected yeast strains and a carefully calibrated fermentation period ensure aromatic depth, before the whisky is double-distilled in handcrafted copper stills.


Maturation begins in first-fill bourbon casks, before the whisky is finished for around six months in ex-Palo Cortado sherry casks from Jerez. The rare Palo Cortado sherry is considered a particularly prized style, lying aromatically between Amontillado and Oloroso. During maturation, it develops a unique blend of nutty dryness, caramelised sweetness and oxidative depth, which is also reflected in the whisky. This smoky single malt Scotch whisky is bottled at a robust 56.2% ABV, without chill filtration or colouring, thereby fully preserving its natural character. The result is an intense Islands single malt whisky that combines peaty smoke, sherry cask aromas and complex spiciness in an impressive balance.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Earthy peat smoke, autumnal forest floor, smoked almonds, engine oil, accompanied by sweet and nutty notes from the Palo Cortado cask, as well as cocoa powder.

Palate: Creamy and oily with polished wax, toffee, red fruits, campfire embers, salted caramel and strong espresso.

Finish: Long-lasting with smoke, nuttiness, dark chocolate and spicy sherry notes.

The Lagg Palo Cortado Small Batch Single Malt Scotch Whisky is ideal for enjoying neat, to fully experience its powerful combination of peaty smoke, sherry cask aromas and spicy depth. This heavily peated single malt from the Isle of Arran pairs particularly well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, strong cheese or smoked meat dishes. The whisky also reveals its complex aromas particularly impressively when paired with desserts featuring cocoa, espresso or caramel. Thanks to its high alcohol content of 56.2% ABV, adding just a few drops of water brings out additional fruity and nutty facets in the glass.
