Description
Description
The Polz Morillon Südsteiermark DAC 2024, 12.5% vol., 0.75 l, is a brilliant example of Styrian white wine culture and impressively demonstrates the high standard that the Morillon (the regional name for Chardonnay) can achieve in Southern Styria. Grown on a variety of soils – shell limestone, loam, sand, calcareous marl and slate – this wine offers pronounced minerality and terroir-driven finesse. It is aged in stainless steel tanks, which ensures that the freshness, clarity and varietal character are optimally preserved.
The 2024 vintage is multifaceted, youthful and full of vitality. Its harmonious acidity is complemented by delicate stone fruit notes typical of the region. With its clear structure, lively character and versatility, this Morillon offers an authentic tasting experience that delights connoisseurs and curious wine lovers alike. Thanks to its screw cap, it is also practical and straightforward – perfect for modern wine enjoyment. It will be at its best for drinking until at least 2026, meaning it can also be stored for several years.
Tasting Note
The Polz Morillon Südsteiermark DAC 2024 appears in the glass as a sparkling, pale greenish-yellow. On the nose, it reveals subtle, delicate aromas of apricot, white peach and a hint of pomelo, accompanied by delicate almond notes and a stony minerality. On the palate, it impresses with a superbly integrated, lively acidity, a subtle saltiness and crisp fruitiness. Notes of apricot and white peach are evident, complemented by a robust body and an invigorating freshness. A youthful, multi-faceted Morillon – elegant and expressive in equal measure.
Acidity: 5.8 g/l
Residual sugar: 1.8 g/l
This Morillon from Southern Styria is a versatile accompaniment to food. It pairs superbly with a classic Styrian snack, pasta dishes, minced meat patties or light meat dishes. It is particularly exciting when paired with caramelised sheep’s cheese on beetroot carpaccio with honeyed walnuts and cress, where its freshness and minerality perfectly balance the flavours. Served at 8–10 °C, it showcases its complexity to the full and is ideal for both everyday enjoyment and special occasions.
