The Talisker PORT RUIGHE Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 45.8% ABV, comes from the historic Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye and combines the distillery’s characteristic maritime style with an additional sweet, fruity cask influence. The name Port Ruighe refers to Portree, the island’s major port, whilst also evoking the historic links between Scottish merchants and the port wine trade. For this bottling, the classic Talisker single malt is further refined in port wine casks following its standard cask maturation. This gives the smoky, spicy island whisky an additional layer of dark fruit and subtle sweetness, without masking the combination of sea breeze, smoke and pepper that is typical of Talisker.

At 45.8% ABV, the Talisker Port Ruighe Isle of Skye Single Malt is expressive and full-bodied. The port cask finishing complements the distillery’s robust character with notes of ripe berries, dark fruits and sweetish spice, whilst smoke, salt and the famous Talisker pepper provide structure. The whisky is bottled without an age statement, deliberately emphasising cask character and style rather than a specific maturation period. In the 0.7-litre bottle, the Talisker Port Cask Finish whisky presents itself as a distinctive interpretation of the classic island style, harmoniously blending maritime smokiness with the fruity depth of port casks.

Colour: Dark amber with reddish-copper highlights.

Nose: Smoky and maritime with ripe dark fruits, sweet port-like notes and a subtle salty spiciness.

Palate: Powerful and full-bodied with dark berries, plum and sweet spice, accompanied by smoke, black pepper and a salty, maritime note.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming, with smoke, pepper, dark fruit and a subtle lingering sweetness.

Talisker Port Ruighe reveals its blend of smoke and dark fruit particularly beautifully when enjoyed neat at room temperature or with a few drops of still water. Culinary pairings include smoked meats, game dishes or strong blue cheese, which complement the maritime spice very well. Dark chocolate, plum desserts or berry compote also bring out the fruity notes from the port cask maturation superbly. For a relaxed tasting, a nosing glass is ideal, allowing the combination of port fruit, smoke and Talisker pepper to develop gradually.
