The Douglas Laing Old Particular Caol Ila 9 Years Old 2015 is an exclusive single-cask bottling from the renowned Old Particular range by the independent bottler Douglas Laing. With a robust 56.8% ABV, a maturation period of 9 years and presented in an elegant 0.7-litre bottle complete with a stylish gift box (UK), this single malt is aimed at connoisseurs of intense and unadulterated whiskies.


This single cask Islay whisky was distilled in May 2015 and bottled in June 2024. It underwent a special finish in a Ruby Port butt, which lends it additional depth, fruity sweetness and an elegant complexity. Like all bottlings in the Old Particular series, it is non-chill-filtered and bottled without colouring, ensuring that its natural purity and cask character are fully preserved.


The combination of the Caol Ila Distillery’s smoky, maritime character and the fruity, sweet influences of the Ruby Port cask makes this edition an exceptional example of the series. As a single cask release, it is strictly limited and therefore of particular interest to collectors.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light amber.

Nose: Intense peaty smoke, with maritime notes of salt, seaweed and a hint of sweetness.

Palate: Powerful, spicy and complex with campfire smoke, malt, spices and a hint of caramel.

Finish: Long-lasting, smoky and maritime with subtle spice.

The Old Particular Ledaig 12 Years Old is excellent enjoyed neat, to experience the characteristic combination of smoke and maritime notes. A few drops of water can bring out additional facets such as sweetness and fruitiness. Culinary pairings include grilled meat, strong cheeses such as blue cheese, or smoked fish. It is also an excellent choice to accompany a cigar or dark chocolate with a high cocoa content.
