The Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Edition Glenrothes 10 Years Old #50 2015 is a powerful Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from the renowned Glenrothes Distillery. As No. 50 in the Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Edition, this bottling has been specially selected for connoisseurs of intense, unadulterated Scotch whiskies. The single malt was distilled in 2015 and matured for 10 years entirely in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts. The intense initial contact with these casks, previously filled with Oloroso sherry, imparts a pronounced sherry cask character and a rich, natural colour. The whisky is bottled without the addition of colouring and without chill filtration, thereby largely preserving its original character.


The 100 Proof Edition from Signatory Vintage takes its name from the traditional British unit of measurement, ‘proof’: 100 British proof corresponds to 57.1% vol., which is the strength at which this Glen Rothes is also bottled. Historically, the ‘proof’ designation played a role in maritime navigation, amongst other things, as it was used to verify the alcohol strength of spirits. Today, at Signatory, the term denotes a range of whiskies bottled at a high strength, with a particular focus on cask character and an attractive balance between age, maturation and alcohol strength. The combination of the 2015 vintage, 10 years’ maturation, first-fill Oloroso sherry butts and 57.1% vol. makes this Glen Rothes single malt a distinctive Speyside bottling in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep amber with dark golden highlights.

Nose: Intense and sherry-driven, with dried fruit, raisins and dark fruit, accompanied by caramel, nuts and spicy oak.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex with ripe dried fruit, dark sweetness and robust Oloroso spice, complemented by nuts, caramel and oak.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming with sherry spice, dried fruit and a robust, lingering oak finish.

The Signatory Vintage Glen Rothes 10 Years Old 100 Proof Edition #50 is best enjoyed neat at room temperature to begin with, to appreciate the intense influence of the first-fill Oloroso sherry butts. Due to the high alcohol content of 57.1% vol., a few drops of still water can reveal further facets and make the cask’s flavour profile slightly more accessible. Mature hard cheeses, walnuts, dried fruit or dark chocolate pair particularly well with this whisky. This robust Speyside bottling is also ideal for a sherry cask whisky tasting.
