The Lochlea Dark Briar Single Estate Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a distinctive bottling from the independent Lochlea Distillery, which is situated in the Scottish Lowlands and is renowned for its craft whiskies made from barley grown on the distillery’s own land. As a single estate whisky, all the barley comes from the distillery’s own fields, lending the product a special authenticity and traceability. Bottled at 46% ABV, this edition offers a perfectly balanced drinking strength.


The whisky was matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry casks, Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks and port casks, giving it exceptional depth and a complex spectrum of flavours. Whilst the Oloroso casks contribute nutty and spicy notes, PX casks provide sweet dried fruit flavours and Port casks add fruity, berry-like accents. The Dark Briar was bottled without chill filtration and without colouring, allowing it to impress in its pure, natural form. It thus embodies the modern Lowland style with the distinct signature of the Lochlea Distillery.

Tasting Note

Colour: Natural gold with coppery highlights.

Nose: Rich and sweet, with notes of red fruits, vanilla caramel, sweet sweets and fresh baking spices.

Palate: Full-bodied, rich and juicy, with flavours of cherries, sweet plums, warming tannins and gingerbread.

Finish: Long-lasting, rich and harmonious, with velvety tannins and subtle spicy notes.

Lochlea Dark Briar reveals its full potential when enjoyed neat at room temperature, but is also highly versatile when paired with food. It pairs superbly with mature hard cheeses such as Manchego or Cheddar, with braised beef or game dishes, and elegantly complements desserts featuring dark chocolate or berries. Furthermore, it can also be used in sophisticated whisky cocktails, such as a Rob Roy or a Boulevardier, where its sherry and port cask notes lend particular depth. As part of a whisky tasting, it impressively demonstrates the innovative character of the Lochlea Distillery.
