The Lochlea Smoke Without Fire Single Estate Single Malt Scotch Whisky is an innovative bottling from the independent Lochlea Distillery in the Scottish Lowlands. As a single estate whisky, it is produced exclusively from the distillery’s own barley, grown in its fields. It thus embodies transparency, authenticity and an uncompromising philosophy of quality. Bottled at 46% ABV, it offers a harmonious balance between intensity and drinking pleasure.


Maturation took place in a combination of ex-peated casks and red wine casks, giving this whisky an exciting bouquet. The ex-peated casks lend it a subtle smoky note, whilst the red wine casks add fruity depth, red berries and gentle tannins. It is bottled without chill filtration and without colouring, ensuring that its natural purity and authentic aroma are fully preserved. The name ‘Smoke Without Fire’ encapsulates the philosophy behind this bottling: a noticeable yet finely integrated smokiness that is not overpowering, but harmoniously balanced.

Tasting Note

Colour: Natural gold with subtle amber highlights.

Nose: Sweet red berries, cherry blossom, lemon zest, floral freshness and a gentle smokiness.

Palate: Salty, maritime smoke, fresh oak, a campfire character, light citrus notes, delicate fruit and a hint of fizzy drink powder.

Finish: Slightly charred wood notes, delicate florals and subtle phenols, fading gently and fresh.

Lochlea Smoke Without Fire really comes into its own when enjoyed neat at room temperature, but is also well suited to creative combinations. It pairs perfectly with mature cheeses such as Cheddar, grilled meats such as beef steak or lamb chops, and dark chocolate. Thanks to its distinctive cask character, it also makes an excellent base for smoky, fruity whisky cocktails, such as a Smoky Manhattan or a Boulevardier, in which the combination of red wine notes and subtle smokiness comes into its own.
