The Polz Urbani Steiermark 2018 is an elegant, finely structured red wine blend from Southern Styria, which impressively reflects the renowned Polz winery’s commitment to quality and its art of winemaking. This cuvée, comprising 50 per cent Zweigelt, 25 per cent Blaufränkisch and 25 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, comes exclusively from the finest Styrian vineyards, where the vines are between 12 and 25 years old. These deeply rooted vines are able to develop the complexity that defines this wine’s distinctive character on the poor, mineral-rich soils of Muschelkalk and loam.


The winemaking process is carried out with the utmost care: following a traditional maceration, the wine matures for 30 months in used barrique barrels, giving it depth, structure and balance without the wood overpowering the fruit. With an alcohol content of 12.5% vol., the Polz Urbani is elegant, fresh and expressive all at once – a red wine that focuses not on power, but on finesse and drinking pleasure. The recommended serving temperature is 14–16 °C, and it will reach its peak drinking maturity by around 2026.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Polz Urbani 2018 displays a light purplish-red colour. On the nose, aromas of red berries, cherries and sour cherries dominate, accompanied by spicy notes, dark chocolate and a slightly earthy undertone. On the palate, the wine is fruity, juicy and harmonious, with lively tannins that lend structure and tension. The finish is elegant and lingering – a wine with a distinct character and fine minerality.
