The Lochlea RED WINE CASK Single Estate Single Malt Scotch Whisky Release 2025 46% ABV 0.7 l + GB is a limited-edition, characterful expression from the independent Lochlea Distillery in the Scottish Lowlands. The distillery is a true ‘farm-to-bottle’ operation, carrying out every stage of production – from barley cultivation through distillation to bottling – directly on its own estate. This consistent ‘single estate’ principle gives each whisky an unmistakable character and a deep connection to the land on which it is produced.

For the Red Wine Cask Release 2025, the whisky was first matured in classic oak casks and then finished in fine Grenache red wine casks. These expressive casks lend the whisky an intense aroma with notes of ripe red fruits, dark cherries and subtle spices, whilst also imparting a warm, reddish-golden colour and an elegant, velvety texture. The Grenache casks add an extra layer of depth that blends harmoniously with the natural malt notes and the delicate honeyed sweetness characteristic of the Lochlea style.

Bottled at 46 per cent ABV, non-chill-filtered and in its natural colour, this single malt presents itself in its most authentic form – powerful, balanced and full of character. The interplay between the red wine cask finish and regional barley makes it an impressive example of modern Lowland whisky-making.

Tasting Note

Colour: Bright copper-red with a ruby-coloured sheen.

Nose: Expressive, with red berries, cherries, raisins and delicate vanilla, underpinned by spicy oak.

Palate: Round and fruity with notes of wild berries, caramelised orange, honey, spices and subtle tannins from the Grenache barrels.

Finish: Long-lasting, warm and well-balanced with oaky spice, sweet vanilla and a hint of dark chocolate.

The Lochlea Red Wine Cask Single Estate – Grenache Finish is ideal for drinking neat, but adding a drop of water allows its fruity and spicy nuances to unfold even further. Culinary pairings include braised lamb, saddle of venison in red wine jus or duck breast with a cherry glaze. It is also a stylish accompaniment to hard cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère, dark chocolate filled with berries, or desserts such as chocolate fondant and berry tart.
