The Canavere di Giacosa Fratelli Barolo Bussia DOCG 2019, 14.5% ABV, 0.75 l, comes from the renowned Bussia sub-region in Monforte d’Alba, one of the most prestigious sites in the Barolo region. The Nebbiolo grape variety thrives here on soils whose balanced ratio of loamy and calcareous components, as well as their high content of magnesium and trace elements, contributes significantly to the wines’ characteristic structure. The vineyard’s location at the entrance to the valley allows for significant day-night temperature fluctuations, which ensure optimal physiological ripeness and pronounced fruity nuances. Vinification follows a deliberately gentle, non-aggressive approach with extended maceration, before ageing takes place in large wooden casks of 30 or 60 hectolitres, which significantly supports the wine’s elegant tannin structure and harmonious development.


The 2019 vintage impressively showcases the classic character of the Bussia vineyard, combining power, depth and structure with a particular finesse that is unique to this part of Monforte d’Alba. The combination of terroir, traditional vinification and barrel ageing gives this Barolo great ageing potential and makes it attractive to both collectors and connoisseurs of great single-vineyard wines. The wine reveals its full character best when served at around 18°C, at which temperature its complexity and internal balance come to the fore particularly clearly.

Tasting Note

Ruby red in the glass, beginning to develop a garnet hue. Full and persistent on the nose, with floral notes of rose, complemented by complex hints of leather and tar. On the palate, it is dry, harmonious and full-bodied, with velvety, alluring tannins. The finish is deep, structured and long-lasting.

This Barolo Bussia DOCG 2019 is an excellent accompaniment to red meat prepared in a variety of ways – roasted, grilled, on the skewer or braised. It also pairs superbly with game dishes, particularly furred game, as well as with hearty mushroom dishes or mature hard cheeses. Thanks to its structure and complexity, it is ideal for fine dining, festive occasions and moments of contemplative enjoyment, during which a characterful, age-worthy Nebbiolo can reveal its full potential.
