The Rum Company’s TONKA TONKA, at 40% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle, is an exceptional flavoured rum speciality that combines exotic spice, maturity and artisanal precision. This creation was developed by the Rum Company in close collaboration with the renowned spice expert Ingo Holland from the ‘Altes Gewürzamt’ in Klingenberg. The aim of this collaboration was to identify the ideal tonka bean to refine a long-aged rum with an intense yet elegant aroma.


The tonka beans used come from the tonka bean tree, which grows primarily in northern South America – particularly in Brazil – but also in Trinidad and in tropical regions of Africa. The seeds of this tree are known for their distinctive fragrance, which evokes notes of vanilla, almonds, caramel and marzipan. In TONKA TONKA, the tonka beans are deliberately used to lend additional depth and complexity to an already matured rum. This gentle flavouring process results in a distinctive spirit that combines the classic structure of rum with exotic spice, setting it apart from the mainstream.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light amber.

Nose: Spicy and sweet at the same time, highly aromatic, with pronounced tonka bean notes.

Palate: Complex and multi-layered, clearly matured rum, intense aromas, pronounced woody notes, full-bodied mouthfeel, hints of cinnamon, bitter almond, vanilla and marzipan, dominated by tonka bean.

Finish: Very long-lasting, dry, with woody notes, tonka bean and vanilla, a pleasant sweetness with distinct toasted aromas.

The Rum Company’s TONKA TONKA is excellent for enjoying neat, ideally at a moderate serving temperature to fully appreciate its multi-layered aromas. It is particularly harmonious after a hearty meal or as an expressive digestif. This tonka bean rum speciality also reveals its strengths when sipped in small sips alongside dark chocolate, desserts containing marzipan or nutty elements. Due to its intense, long-lasting character, this flavoured rum is intended less as a base for mixed drinks and more as a standalone indulgence for special moments.
