The Hillinger Zweigelt 2024 stands for modern, fruit-driven Zweigelt from Austria and embodies the clear signature of the Leo Hillinger winery. The aim of this bottling is to produce an accessible, precise red wine that emphasises varietal typicity and drinking pleasure. The wine is vinified dry and deliberately emphasises the fruit and animating freshness of this grape variety. With an alcohol content of 13%, the 2024 vintage is balanced and light-footed without losing any of its structure, making it suitable for both early consumption and short storage periods. The ageing potential of 2 to 4 years emphasises the uncomplicated character of this Zweigelt, which nevertheless has a clean structure.


The wine is vinified using mash fermentation in steel tanks with regular remontage in order to emphasise fruit intensity and clarity. The deliberate avoidance of wood preserves the varietal freshness and makes the wine particularly versatile. Bottled with a screw cap, this Hillinger Zweigelt stands for contemporary wine enjoyment and uncomplicated handling. A drinking temperature of 10 to 12 °C is recommended, whereby the wine is particularly fresh and lively when served at around 10 °C.

Tasting Note

Purple-red centre with light violet reflections in the glass. The nose is characterised by fruity aromas of dark cherries and blackberries. The cherry flavour continues on the palate, supported by soft, velvety tannins and pleasant acidity. The finish is fruity and of medium length and emphasises the charming character of this Zweigelt.

The Hillinger Zweigelt 2024 is an excellent accompaniment to fine starters such as pâtés as well as classic beef tartare or beef carpaccio, as its freshness and fruit ideally complement the delicate meat textures. It is also very harmonious with light meat dishes or as an uncomplicated accompaniment to Kaltern platters. Thanks to its fresh style, this Zweigelt from Austria is equally suitable for solo enjoyment at a moderate drinking temperature when a fruit-accentuated red wine with a clear structure is required.
