Description
Description
The Heinrich Chardonnay Leithaberg DAC 2023 is a precise, terroir-driven Chardonnay from Burgenland that clearly reflects the unique geology and climate of the Leitha Mountains. Rooted in fossil-rich calcareous sandstone and mica schist soils on the eastern slopes of the Leitha Mountains, this wine develops its characteristic tension, depth and minerality. The vineyard is managed using gentle biodynamic methods, with a high proportion of manual labour and a consistent respect for the natural cycle. The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September and left on the skins for several hours to deepen the structure and expression. With an alcohol content of 13 per cent, the 2023 vintage is balanced, composed and clearly defined.
Vinification involves spontaneous fermentation and malolactic fermentation, after which the wine matures for over a year on its natural lees in large oak casks. This gentle ageing process lends the Chardonnay body, length and elegance without masking its terroir. The majority of the grapes come from the Spiegel, Kirchberg and Alter Berg vineyards in Winden, as well as Fügler in Jois, supplemented by batches from Edelgraben and Zwe. The Leithaberg DAC is synonymous here with distinct terroir, mineral character and a long-lasting structure. Recommended ageing potential: until 2029.

Tasting Note
In the glass, a clear straw-yellow colour with a subtle depth. On the nose, precise and restrained, with ripe fruit and mineral notes. On the palate, firm and well-balanced, with a fine texture and distinct vigour. The finish is gently lingering and supported by mineral notes.
Acidity: 6.3 g/l
Residual sugar: 1 g/l
The Heinrich Chardonnay Leithaberg DAC 2023 is an excellent match for saltwater and freshwater fish, particularly when grilled or pan-fried, as its structure and minerality elegantly complement the roasted flavours. It also harmonises perfectly with shellfish and mussels, likewise grilled or pan-fried, where its tension and length provide balance. Furthermore, this Chardonnay from Leithaberg stands out as a distinguished wine in its own right when a structured, mineral white wine with a clear provenance and understated elegance is required.
