The Salzl Syrah Reserve 2021 is an impressive Austrian quality red wine that interprets the international Syrah grape variety in a powerful yet extremely harmonious style. Produced at the prestigious Salzl winery in Burgenland, this wine reflects the winery's consistent quality philosophy and the special conditions of its terroir. The vines are rooted in sandy soil, which ensures good drainage and gives the grapes a clear fruit character and fine mineral tension.


The single-varietal Syrah is vinified traditionally, with maceration in steel tanks at 30 °C, a maceration period of 14 days and subsequent malolactic fermentation, which gives the wine depth, structure and balance. The wine is matured for 12 months in small oak barrels made from 100% new wood, which gives the dry red wine additional complexity, density and an elegant roasted flavour. With an alcohol content of 14.5%, the Salzl Syrah Reserve 2021 is powerful and concentrated, yet always balanced and harmonious. The generous ageing period of 2025 to 2035 emphasises the high potential for storage and development of this red wine from Austria with its strong character. Bottled at 0.75 litres, this reserve stands for depth, precision and long-lasting expressiveness.

Tasting Note

In the glass, it is a powerful dark ruby-garnet colour with an opaque core and a delicate violet rim. The nose reveals a multi-layered aroma of intense dark fruit, juniper, ripe cherry fruit, black olive and fine roasted flavours. The palate presents a powerful fruit extract with dried plums, black cherries, blackberries and chocolate, accompanied by a fine tannin structure, juicy texture, subtle herbal spice and fresh minerality. The finish is extremely long-lasting with nuances of nougat, liquorice and harmoniously integrated roasted aromas in a fruity, spicy finish.

The Salzl Syrah Reserve 2021 is an ideal accompaniment to braised game, beef with dark sauces or classic hare, where its depth and structure really come into their own. This dry Syrah also comes into its own with strong meat dishes with roasted flavours, slowly braised dishes or intense sauces. At a serving temperature of 16 to 18 °C, it is particularly balanced, complex and elegant and is suitable for both festive menus and sophisticated moments of enjoyment.
