The Pfneisl Merlot JOE'S PLAYGROUND 2022 is an expressive Austrian quality red wine from Central Burgenland that combines origin, personality and terroir in an elegant interpretation of Merlot. Produced by the renowned Pfneisl winery, this Merlot from Deutschkreutz comes from the top Mitterberg vineyard on the Deutschkreutz Hochberg plateau. The clay-rich soil characterises the wine with depth, juiciness and mineral tension. The site is also the favourite vineyard of Grandpa Josef, to whom this wine was dedicated, which gives the local wine its special emotional note.


The Pfneisl Merlot JOE'S PLAYGROUND is aged dry and matures for 14 months in used barriques, creating structure and elegance without masking the fruit. With an alcohol content of 14.5 %, the 2022 vintage is powerful, balanced and precisely balanced. The style combines ripe fruit with fine flavour, mineral clarity and well-integrated wood. Tasting Note

Dark ruby-garnet in colour with violet reflections and a delicate brightening of the rim. The nose reveals an inviting bouquet of ripe blueberry and plum fruit with hints of blackberry, fine minerality and slightly dried herbal notes. On the palate, the wine is juicy and elegant with well-integrated acidity, fine tannins and a complex structure. The finish is velvety, long and fruity with a hint of mocha on the finish.

The Pfneisl Merlot JOE'S PLAYGROUND 2022 is an excellent accompaniment to beef, lamb, braised meat or dishes with fine roasted flavours. This dry Merlot also unfolds its elegance and depth with pasta with strong sauces or mature hard cheese.
