The Pfneisl Shiraz MARIA'S VINEYARD 2022 is an expressive Austrian quality red wine from Central Burgenland that impressively reflects the estate's long-standing passion for the Shiraz grape variety. Produced by the renowned Pfneisl winery, this wine comes from the Satz and Höblisch vineyards in the Alte Deutschkreutzer Weingebirge. The history of this wine is closely linked to the family, as the Shiraz vines were planted on the inherited property of Grandma Maria, to whom this special bottling is dedicated. The climatic conditions of Burgenland and the careful cultivation of the vineyards create the basis for a powerful yet elegant Shiraz with a clear origin.


The Pfneisl Shiraz MARIA'S VINEYARD is vinified dry and matures for 18 months in barriques, creating depth, flavour and structure. With an alcohol content of 14.5%, the 2022 vintage is full-bodied, juicy and harmoniously balanced. The style combines ripe fruit with fine flavour, mineral tension and a very long finish. Bottled with natural cork, this Shiraz from Austria is still slightly closed and promises good ageing potential that will continue to develop its complexity over the coming years.

Tasting Note

In the glass, it is a dark ruby-garnet colour with violet reflections and a delicate brightening of the rim. The nose reveals a powerful bouquet of black and red berries, accompanied by floral, herbal and ethereal notes as well as pepper, coffee, caramel, tobacco and a hint of incense. On the palate, the wine is powerful with a juicy, elegant texture, fine tannin structure, charming fruit sweetness and well-balanced acidity. The finish is mineral, very long-lasting and characterised by nougat notes.

The Pfneisl Shiraz MARIA'S VINEYARD 2022 is an excellent, versatile accompaniment to hearty meat dishes, spicy beef, lamb or game. This dry Shiraz also unfolds its depth and elegance with braised dishes, dishes with roasted flavours or intense spice cuisine. Due to its structure and ageing potential, this red wine from Central Burgenland is recommended both for drinking after sufficient aeration and for ageing over several years.
