Although no original bottles from Jerry Thomas’s era have survived, it is widely accepted that Bogart’s was a contemporary variant of Boker’s Bitters. Even before other bitters found their way into cocktail recipes worldwide, Bogart’s/Boker’s was the definitive standard. As early as 1888, the first printed Martini cocktail recipe explicitly called for the use of “genuine Bogart’s/Boker’s”, which points to its enormous popularity and the existence of inferior imitations. Over a period of more than ten years, The Bitter Truth has conducted extensive research and analysis, based on an extremely rare original bottle from around 1900 containing authentic contents. The historic “Lady-Leg” bottle made of brown glass, along with the original label, has been faithfully reproduced, emphasising the museum-quality character of this edition.
