The Schwarz THE BUTCHER Cuvée 2022 is a characterful, high-quality Austrian red wine that combines drinking pleasure, spice and elegance in an unmistakable style. Produced by the distinctive Schwarz Wein winery, this wine embodies a juicy, approachable style with depth. Made from 100 per cent Zweigelt, it showcases the grape variety’s spicy, fruit-forward character. The wine is aged for 12 months in used barrique barrels, which refines its structure and texture without overpowering the fruit.


With an alcohol content of 13.5 per cent, the 2022 vintage is well-balanced, lively and very easy to drink. The style is deliberately kept clear and direct, yet is imbued with subtle nuances. The name THE BUTCHER symbolises a powerful, honest red wine that is uncomplicated and a joy to drink, yet still demonstrates sophistication. Bottled in the classic 0.75-litre bottle, this Zweigelt from Burgenland is versatile and ready to drink early.

Tasting Note

In the glass, it displays a dark ruby-garnet colour with violet highlights and a delicate lightening at the rim. On the nose, there are hints of cornelian cherries, dark berry jam and blackberries, accompanied by subtle tobacco spice, nuances of black tea and a touch of nougat. On the palate, it is juicy with a fine texture, delicate tannins and dark berry fruit, accentuated by a hint of pepper. The finish is chocolatey, round and pleasantly lingering.

The Schwarz THE BUTCHER Cuvée 2022 is an excellent accompaniment to grilled meat, burgers, pasta with hearty sauces or classic home-cooked meals. Even on its own, this dry Zweigelt impresses with its great drinkability and its spicy, fruity character. Served at a temperature of around 14 to 16 °C, it reveals its balance, freshness and uncomplicated character particularly well.
