The Hillinger HILL 1 2012 14.5% vol. 1.5 litre is one of the most important wines from the Leo Hillinger winery and is considered the top cuvée of the Hillinger house. This Austrian red wine from Burgenland combines several international and regional grape varieties to create a powerful yet elegant composition. The cuvée of Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah combines structure, fruit and flavour to create a multi-layered premium red wine from Austria with great ageing potential.


The wine is matured in barriques, which gives the Hillinger HILL 1 additional depth, complexity and a fine woody flavour. Careful ageing in oak barrels gives this cuvée red wine from Burgenland a harmonious structure and supports the integration of the strong tannins. With an alcohol content of 14.5% vol., this dry red wine is powerful and balanced. Bottled in a magnum bottle of 1.5 litres, this Hillinger red wine is ideal for special occasions or for stylish storage. The optimum drinking age is now and extends to at least 2028, allowing the wine to develop its full aromatic potential.

Tasting Note

The glass reveals a deep dark red with a dense colour structure, the nose reveals intense aromas of dark berries and cassis accompanied by spicy and finely woody nuances, on the palate the wine is powerful and structured with ripe tannins and harmoniously integrated acidity while dark fruit flavours and fine roasted aromas merge together, the finish is complex, elegant and long-lasting.

The Hillinger HILL 1 2012 is an ideal accompaniment to hearty meat dishes, beef steak, game dishes or lamb with a herb crust. This red wine cuvée from Austria also harmonises perfectly with braised dishes, BBQ specialities or mature hard cheese. Served at around 16 °C, this barrique-aged Burgenland red wine develops its aromatic depth and structure in a particularly balanced way and is ideal for sophisticated menus or enjoyable wine evenings.
