The Hillinger HILL 1 2012, 14.5% ABV, 1.5 l, is one of the most significant wines from the Leo Hillinger Winery and is regarded as the Hillinger estate’s top cuvée. This Austrian red wine from Burgenland combines several international and regional grape varieties to create a powerful yet elegant blend. The blend of Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah combines structure, fruit and spice to create a multi-layered premium red wine from Austria with great ageing potential.


The wine is aged in barriques, which lends the Hillinger HILL 1 additional depth, complexity and a subtle woody spice. Careful ageing in oak barrels gives this cuvée red wine from Burgenland a harmonious structure and helps to integrate the robust tannins. With an alcohol content of 14.5% vol., this dry red wine is powerful yet balanced. Bottled in a 1.5-litre magnum, this Hillinger red wine is ideal for special occasions or for stylish ageing. The wine is currently at its optimal drinking maturity and will remain so until at least 2028, allowing it to develop its full aromatic potential.

Tasting Note

In the glass, it displays a deep dark red colour with a dense texture, On the nose, intense aromas of dark berries and cassis unfold, accompanied by spicy and subtly oaky nuances; on the palate, the wine is powerful and well-structured, with ripe tannins and harmoniously integrated acidity, whilst dark fruit flavours and subtle toasty notes blend together; The finish is complex, elegant and long-lasting.

The Hillinger HILL 1 2012 is an ideal accompaniment to hearty meat dishes, beef steak, game or lamb with a herb crust. This red wine cuvée from Austria also pairs superbly with braised dishes, BBQ specialities or mature hard cheese.
