The Salzl Cuvée 3-5-8 Premium 2021 14% Vol. 0.75 l is a powerful and elegant red wine cuvée from Burgenland, which is one of the top wines from the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery. This premium red wine from Austria combines the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties to create a profound composition with international style and regional character. The vines grow on sandy soils and black earth consisting of loamy silt with a high gravel content, which gives the Burgenland red wine its mineral structure and aromatic depth.

Vinification is carried out using traditional mash fermentation in stainless steel tanks at around 30 °C with a maceration period of around 20 days, followed by malolactic fermentation, which gives the wine additional harmony. The cuvée of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon then matures for a full 24 months in small oak barrels made from 100% new wood, giving the barrel-aged red wine its complex structure, fine roasted flavours and impressive depth. With 14% alcohol by volume, this Austrian premium red wine is powerful, dense and excellently structured. The 2021 vintage has a drinking window from around 2025 to 2035 and therefore offers considerable ageing potential.

Tasting Note

A deep, dark ruby-garnet colour with an opaque core and delicate purple rim. The nose reveals opulent aromas of ripe berry fruit accompanied by dark chocolate, smoky spice notes, liquorice, black cherries and hints of figs, orange zest and blackcurrant herb, On the palate, the wine is dense and complex with extract-sweet fruit, juicy tannins and a balanced structure with nuances of berry confit and roasted plums. The finish is long, chocolaty and characterised by nougat as well as a finely roasted finish with lots of fruit melt.

The Salzl Cuvée 3-5-8 Premium 2021 is an excellent accompaniment to intense meat dishes, game dishes, fillet of beef, braised beef, lamb or strong BBQ dishes. This Burgenland red wine cuvée also unfolds its aromatic depth particularly harmoniously with spicy hard cheeses or matured cheese. Served at around 16 to 18 °C in a Bordeaux glass, this barrique-aged Austrian red wine shows its complex structure, elegant strength and lingering finish to optimum effect.
