Description
Markowitsch M1 2023 14.5% ABV 0.75l online kaufen
The Markowitsch M1 2023 is a powerful red wine cuvée, designed for long ageing, from the Aubühl vineyard in the Arbesthaler Hügelland. Aubühl is considered the warmest Lager in the region and is situated at an altitude of 210 to 220 metres above sea level, facing south-west. The calcareous-sandy, slightly loamy soils warm up quickly and provide ideal conditions for the grape varieties cultivated here across a total of 4.5 hectares. The M1 2023 is composed of 65% Merlot, 25% Blaufränkisch and 10% Cabernet Franc. Since 2000, the Weingut Markowitsch has bottled only the ripest batches under the M1 label.
For the 2023 vintage, the ripest grapes were harvested in early to mid-October following multiple rounds of manual selection. Following a dry and very cold winter, rainfall in April and May provided the necessary water supply. The changeable summer brought short spells of heat and cooler periods, before an early and swift harvest yielded healthy, fully ripe grapes. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation takes place at 30–32 °C in wooden fermentation vats, with a maceration period of 24 to 30 days. The Markowitsch M1 2023 is then aged for 24 months in French barriques and a 1,200-litre wooden cask. With an alcohol content of 14.5% in the 0.75-litre bottle, this long-lived Austrian red wine has excellent ageing potential until 2047.

Tasting Note
In the glass, the Markowitsch M1 2023 displays an intense, dark red colour. The complex bouquet opens up over time, combining plum and blackberry with light raspberries and dark cherries. These are joined by notes of tobacco, orange zest, cinnamon, pepper, cloves and cedarwood. On the palate, fine tannins lend the wine a firm and precise structure. The finish is long-lasting, with a slightly salty nuance that invites you to take the next sip.
Acidity: 5.1 g/l
Residual sugar: 1 g/l
The Markowitsch M1 2023 calls for hearty meat dishes and is particularly well-suited to roast or braised beef, steak, lamb and game. At the same time, it is a wine that offers sufficient depth to be enjoyed on its own for a quiet evening of indulgence. The recommended serving temperature is 16–18 °C. Decanting for around 2–3 hours in a carafe is recommended, whilst the specified drinking window from 2025 to 2047 underlines its great ageing potential.
