The cuvée is made from the Blauer Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Merlot grape varieties, which blend to create a harmonious and multi-layered red wine. The vines grow on brown and black earth soils, which provide the grapes with ideal conditions for concentration and expression. The Hill 1 impresses with its balanced structure, lush tannins and a pleasantly mild acidity, through which power and elegance blend together perfectly. With an alcohol content of 13% vol. and the maturity of the 2016 vintage, this Austrian red wine is already wonderfully approachable, yet still possesses considerable potential for further development. The natural cork closure underlines the high quality of this premium cuvée.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Hillinger HILL 1 2016 displays a deep ruby red colour with garnet-red highlights. On the nose, intense aromas of dark berries and ripe fruit unfold, accompanied by subtle spicy notes and delicate toasted aromas. On the palate, this red wine is powerful and full-bodied, with lush, well-integrated tannins, a pleasantly mild acidity and harmonious balance. The finish is long-lasting, elegant and characterised by impressive depth.

The Hillinger HILL 1 2016 pairs superbly with braised or stewed veal dishes such as veal schnitzel with butter, larded veal heart or osso buco made from veal shank. Served at a temperature of 16–18 °C, the wine reveals its complexity, structure and elegance particularly beautifully.
