The Ondjaba The Namibian Whisky Single Malt x Sherry Style Finish is an exceptional single malt whisky from Namibia, produced exclusively from malted barley. This sets this bottling apart from the triple-grain whiskies in the Ondjaba range. It is produced at the Erongo Mountain Winery in Namibia, where the climatic conditions allow for a profound influence on the cask maturation. Following distillation, the single malt is initially matured in the producer’s own ex-red wine casks. The combination of viticulture and whisky production under one roof allows for particularly direct access to the wine casks used.


Following maturation in ex-red wine casks, the Ondjaba Single Malt undergoes a final finish in so-called ‘ex-sherry-style’ casks. This designation is deliberately distinguished from classic ex-sherry casks and corresponds to the producer’s specification. With a robust 51% ABV in the 0.7-litre bottle, this Namibian single malt presents itself as a characterful bottling with distinct cask influence. The combination of 100 per cent malted barley, red wine cask maturation and a sherry-style cask finish gives this whisky a unique position within the Ondjaba range. For lovers of international whiskies, it therefore offers an interesting alternative to classic single malts from Scotland, Ireland or other established whisky-producing regions.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber.

Nose: Smoky at first, with subtle nutty and fruity aromas, followed by almonds and toffee, as well as fresh hints of cherries and plums.

Palate: Full-bodied and spicy-nutty with pronounced cereal and malt notes, accompanied by subtle smokiness and harmoniously integrated fruity aromas.

Finish: Long-lasting and well-balanced with subtle smokiness, spicy nutty notes and lingering fruity accents.

The Ondjaba Single Malt x Sherry Style Finish is best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a nosing glass, allowing the influences of the red wine and sherry-style casks to unfold fully. At a robust 51% ABV, a few drops of still water can bring out additional fruity and malty notes. Culinary pairings include mature hard cheeses, game dishes or grilled beef, as well as roasted almonds and walnuts. Dark chocolate or desserts featuring cherries and plums also harmonise well with the whisky’s fruity, spicy cask character.
