The GlenDronach House Editions The Venetian Room is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky that combines GlenDronach’s traditional sherry cask maturation with influences from Italian wine casks. This edition forms part of the new, permanent House Editions range for Global Travel Retail, created by Master Blender Rachel Barrie and launched to mark the 200th anniversary of the GlenDronach Distillery. The Venetian Room is inspired by the elegance, architecture and culture of fine dining in Venice. For the maturation process, The GlenDronach combines classic Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and Oloroso sherry casks with Italian Amarone red wine casks. It is precisely the influence of the Amarone casks that gives this edition a distinctive blend of dark fruit, sherry character and Italian wine cask notes.

At 46 per cent, The GlenDronach The Venetian Room is presented in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. The three different cask types form the central feature of this bottling: whilst Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso represent the classic GlenDronach signature, the Amarone casks reflect the edition’s Italian inspiration. The whisky is also bottled without chill filtration. The House Editions took around two years to develop and, alongside The Venetian Room, also comprise The Sevillian Room and The Parisian Room, with each variant interpreting a different international metropolis and a corresponding additional cask type. As a travel retail single malt with Amarone cask influence, The Venetian Room thus offers a particularly fruit-forward interpretation of the sherry-influenced The GlenDronach style.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden amber.

Nose: Lush and complex with dark cherries, tiramisu, blackcurrants and dates, accompanied by cocoa, amaretti and subtle vanilla notes.

Palate: Full-bodied with honeyed red plum and almond liqueur, followed by maraschino cherries, chocolate with hazelnut and hints of Black Forest gateau.

Finish: Long-lasting and rich with forest fruits, creamy hazelnut and delicate macchiato caramel notes.

The GlenDronach The Venetian Room is best enjoyed neat at room temperature to allow the interplay of the sherry and Amarone casks to unfold fully. It pairs particularly well with tiramisu, dark chocolate, amaretti or desserts featuring cherries and hazelnuts, which echo the key elements of its profile. This robust single malt also offers a fitting contrast to mature hard cheeses or roasted nuts. Thanks to the gift box and the distinctive Amarone cask component, this bottling is also ideal for whisky tastings and as a gift for lovers of sherry- and wine-cask-matured single malts.
