The Cà dei Frati Brolettino Lugana Privilegio di Famiglia DOC 2020 13.5% is a matured special edition of the renowned Lugana DOC from Lake Garda, which highlights the ageing potential of the indigenous Turbiana grape variety. This dry Italian white wine is made from 100 per cent Turbiana; the grapes are harvested at full ripeness around mid-October and come from limestone and clay-rich soils. Vinification begins in stainless-steel tanks and continues in barriques, with malolactic fermentation also taking place in the barriques. The wine is then aged for 10 months in barriques.

What sets the ‘Privilegio di Famiglia’ edition apart is the subsequent five-year bottle ageing, which allows the Brolettino to develop into a complex, structured and mature Lugana. The combination of 100 per cent Turbiana, barrique ageing and five years’ bottle ageing gives the 2020 vintage a character that is markedly different from that of a young Lugana. Presented in a 0.75 l bottle and wooden box, the Cà dei Frati Brolettino Privilegio di Famiglia 2020 is also an excellent choice as a high-quality wine gift or for connoisseurs of mature Italian white wines. The total acidity is stated as 6.60 g/l, and the pH value as 3.25.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Cà dei Frati Brolettino Lugana Privilegio di Famiglia 2020 displays an intense yellow hue with mature highlights. On the nose, ripe fruit, peach and yellow apple unfold, complemented by fresh balsamic notes. On the palate, this Lugana is powerful and fully structured, yet retains its elegance and freshness; crisp acidity and the characteristic salty minerality provide tension and balance. The finish is lingering, subtly spicy and characterised by delicate aromatic notes.

The Brolettino Privilegio di Famiglia should be enjoyed at a serving temperature of 10–12 °C. Its structure makes it an excellent accompaniment to shellfish, hearty fish dishes, poultry and white meat, as well as pasta with light sauces. This matured Lugana DOC also pairs beautifully with pulses, hearty winter soups and medium-aged cheeses.
