Description
Description
The Frauwallner Sauvignon Blanc Straden Vulkanland Steiermark DAC 2025 12.5% is a dry local Sauvignon Blanc from Straden, which highlights the volcanic origins of the south-eastern Styrian Vulkanland Steiermark DAC region. The grapes come from hillside vineyards around Straden at an altitude of around 300 to 450 metres above sea level, facing south-east to south-west. The vineyards are characterised by volcanic rock, basalt and limestone gravel. The grapes are harvested by hand and selected manually; following a maceration period of around two to three days, the wine is matured in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled with a screw cap.
In the 0.75-litre bottle, the Frauwallner Winery in Straden presents a precise and terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc with pronounced minerality. The 2025 vintage has a residual sugar content of 1.2 g/l and an acidity of 5.8 g/l, making it clearly dry. The optimal drinking window is given as 2026 to 2028. The vintage also impressed in terms of quality: Falstaff awarded the Frauwallner Sauvignon Blanc Straden 2025 92–94 points. This Styrian Sauvignon Blanc thus combines volcanic terroir, careful hand-harvesting and straightforward vinification to create a distinctive local wine from Straden.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Frauwallner Sauvignon Blanc Straden 2025 presents a pale greenish-yellow colour with silvery highlights. On the nose, notes of white tropical fruits and redcurrants unfold, accompanied by grapefruit zest and a subtle herbal spice. On the palate, the Sauvignon Blanc is crisp, tightly structured and precise, with white fruit and a distinctive mineral edge. The finish is salty and mineral, lingering for a long time with subtle vegetal notes and a hint of lime.
Acidity: 5.7 g/l
Residual sugar: 1.1 g/l
The Frauwallner Sauvignon Blanc Straden Vulkanland Steiermark DAC is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 10–12 °C. Its mineral freshness pairs particularly well with fish, seafood, poultry and vegetable dishes; this Sauvignon Blanc is also ideal with dishes featuring peppers or fresh herbs. Thanks to its precise acidity and salty minerality, it is equally excellent as a sophisticated accompaniment to pan-fried char or steamed chicken breast.
