The Kavalan SOLIST Manzanilla Sherry Cask is an exceptional single malt whisky from Taiwan, matured entirely in a selected Manzanilla sherry cask. Manzanilla is a dry style of sherry, the character of which imparts a distinctive blend of fruity, sweet and salty notes to the whisky. The intensive maturation in Taiwan’s warm climate fosters a particularly pronounced exchange between the distillate and the oak. As part of the renowned Kavalan SOLIST range, this bottling is presented as a single cask and at cask strength, with an alcohol content of 58.6 per cent. It is not chill-filtered and retains its natural colour, ensuring that the individual character of the single cask remains as unadulterated as possible.


Since its foundation in Taiwan, the Kavalan Distillery has made a name for itself internationally for its intensely cask-influenced single malts. The Kavalan SOLIST Manzanilla Sherry Cask achieved a special milestone at the 2016 World Whiskies Awards, where a corresponding bottling was honoured as the World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt Whisky. A characteristic feature of this Manzanilla cask maturation is the interplay between sweet and salty-tart nuances, with the intense fruitiness particularly coming to the fore. The combination of Manzanilla sherry cask, single cask bottling, cask strength, natural colour and the absence of chill filtration makes this Kavalan a particularly expressive bottling. The 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a high-quality wooden box.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold to amber.

Nose: Intensely fruity and complex, with a delicate balance of sweet, slightly tart and salty notes.

Palate: Full-bodied and fruit-forward, with an enticing interplay of sweetness and salty, tangy Manzanilla influences.

Finish: Long-lasting and intense, with dominant fruit and subtle lingering sweet-salty cask notes.

Due to its 58.6% cask strength, the Kavalan SOLIST Manzanilla Sherry Cask is best enjoyed neat at room temperature to begin with, followed by a few drops of still water, which can reveal further facets of the Manzanilla cask. It pairs well with roasted almonds, mature hard cheese, dark chocolate or dried fruit.
