Planteray Rum BARBADOS XO 20th Anniversary is a premium rum from Barbados, originally created to mark the 20th anniversary of Maison Ferrand’s Master Blender, Alexandre Gabriel. For this bottling, carefully selected, matured Barbados rums are blended together. A key feature is Planteray’s signature double-ageing method: first, the rums mature under tropical conditions in Barbados in ex-bourbon casks made of American oak. They are then transported to France, where they undergo a further ageing phase in former Ferrand cognac casks made of French oak. The contrast between tropical and continental climates, as well as the use of two different types of cask, defines the distinctive style of this renowned XO bottling.

The Planteray Barbados XO 20th Anniversary, which was previously marketed under the brand name Plantation, thus combines the rum tradition of Barbados with French expertise in cask maturation. The blend of different rums and the subsequent second maturation lend this bottling its complex and harmonious character. With an alcohol content of 40 per cent, the Barbados XO is designed specifically as a sipping rum and ranks among the established premium bottlings in the Planteray range. In addition to the 0.7-litre bottle, this set includes a gift box and two matching glasses, making it particularly suitable for shared tastings and as a high-quality rum gift.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber with mahogany-coloured highlights.

Nose: Ripe tropical fruits, vanilla and coconut blend with cocoa, delicate spices and notes of toasted wood.

Palate: Smooth, full-bodied and complex, with banana, vanilla and caramel, accompanied by coconut, chocolate and harmonious oak spice.

Finish: Long-lasting and smooth, with vanilla, cocoa, tropical fruits and subtle lingering notes of spice.

Planteray Barbados XO 20th Anniversary is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature or over a large ice cube. It pairs well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, caramelised banana or desserts featuring coconut and vanilla, which complement the rum’s tropical and oak-influenced notes. This XO bottling also makes an excellent digestif after a hearty dinner.
