The Inchdairnie KinGlassie 8 Years Old Raw is an intensely peated Fife single malt Scotch whisky from the Inchdairnie Distillery in the Scottish Lowlands. KinGlassie embodies the distillery’s deliberately smoky style and is distilled only during a short production period in winter. This bottling uses 100 per cent barley grown in Fife, the malt of which is peated to over 50 ppm using mainland peat. As a result, the smoky character deliberately differs from that of classic, maritime-influenced island whiskies. The whisky was distilled in 2017 and bottled in 2025 after eight years of maturation. The RAW Edition is intended to showcase the original character of the peated Inchdairnie distillate in a particularly direct way.

The entire eight-year maturation takes place in ex-bourbon casks made of American oak, ensuring that the smoke, malt and distillery character remain at the forefront. The KinGlassie RAW 8 Years is bottled at 46.3 per cent, with no chill filtration or added colouring. The combination of locally grown barley, a peat content of over 50 ppm and consistent maturation in ex-bourbon casks makes this bottling a distinctive peated Lowland single malt from Fife. At the same time, KinGlassie underlines the experimental approach of Inchdairnie, a young Scottish distillery that began production in 2015. The RAW Edition is designed as a limited release and is aimed particularly at lovers of robust, straightforward peated whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Straw-yellow with a pale sheen.

Nose: Strong campfire smoke, accompanied by dry wood, mineral notes and a subtle malty sweetness.

Palate: Intensely smoky and powerful with sweet malt and a clear, straightforward structure.

Finish: Long-lasting and smoky, with peat smoke, dry oak and lingering malty sweetness.

The KinGlassie RAW 8 Years is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, although a few drops of still water can further open up the powerful smoky character. In terms of food pairings, smoked meat, BBQ dishes, grilled beef or robust game dishes complement the intense peaty notes very well. Spicy hard cheeses or dark chocolate with a high cocoa content also provide a fitting contrast to the smoky profile. This bottling is particularly interesting for whisky tastings where different types of peat and the distinctions between smoky Lowland and Islay whiskies are compared.
