The Eldvatten Svenska Bowmore 11 Years Old 2015 is a limited-edition single cask bottling of an Islay single malt Scotch whisky, selected by the Swedish independent bottler Svenska Eldvatten. The whisky was distilled in 2015 at the Bowmore Distillery on the Scottish island of Islay and, after 11 years of maturation, bottled at a robust 57.8 per cent, cask strength. Bowmore is one of Islay’s most historic distilleries, having been founded as early as 1779. The distillery is characterised by a combination of maritime island character, peaty smoke and a comparatively balanced malt base. With this independent bottling, the focus is on the individual cask, which sets it apart significantly from the distillery’s regular original bottlings.

Visually, the Bowmore 11 Years Old Cat Label is one of Svenska Eldvatten’s distinctive ‘Cat’ editions, which are of particular interest to collectors of independent Scotch whisky bottlings. The combination of the 2015 vintage, 11 years’ maturation and 57.8% cask strength offers an intense interpretation of the Bowmore distillate. Svenska Eldvatten was founded in 2011 and focuses on selecting characterful whisky casks, which are bottled in small batches. Tasting Note

Colour: Gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Maritime peat smoke, citrus and ripe fruit, accompanied by vanilla, malt and subtle coastal spice.

Palate: Powerful and complex, with peaty smoke, citrus, sweet malt and ripe fruit, complemented by spicy oak and maritime notes.

Finish: Long-lasting, smoky and warming, with mineral spice, fruit, oak and lingering Islay smoke.

The Eldvatten Svenska Bowmore 11 Years Old 2015 should initially be tasted neat at around 18–20 °C to appreciate the individual cask character. At 57.8% cask strength, a few drops of still water can then be added, which may reveal further flavours. It pairs well with smoked salmon, mature hard cheese or dark chocolate, which provide sufficient intensity to balance the smoky Islay profile. With its striking Cat Label and the character of an independent cask release, this whisky is also ideal for collections and comparative Islay tastings.
