Sipsmith London V.J.O.P. Gin is a particularly juniper-forward navy strength gin from the Sipsmith Distillery in London. The abbreviation V.J.O.P. stands for ‘Very Junipery Over Proof’ and sums up the concept behind this powerful bottling. It was developed with the aim of bringing juniper – as the central botanical – even more to the fore than in the classic Sipsmith London Dry Gin. To achieve this, the distillery uses twice the amount of juniper berries and combines them with a complex three-stage juniper infusion process. A key part of this is a three-day maceration, which allows the characteristic essential oils of the juniper berries to develop with particular intensity.

In keeping with the heightened botanical intensity, Sipsmith V.J.O.P. Gin is bottled at a robust 57.7% ABV. This high strength carries the pronounced juniper character and makes the gin particularly assertive in classic cocktails and long drinks. With its uncompromising focus on juniper, the Very Junipery Over Proof Gin is a particularly intense interpretation of the traditional London gin style. The combination of Navy Strength, double the amount of juniper and a three-stage infusion makes the 0.7-litre bottle particularly appealing to lovers of classic, dry gins with a distinct juniper flavour.

Due to its 57.7% alcohol content, Sipsmith V.J.O.P. Gin is particularly well-suited to drinks where a strong juniper character is required. For a gin and tonic, pour approximately 4 cl of V.J.O.P. into a glass filled with plenty of ice, top up with a dry Mediterranean tonic water and garnish with an orange zest. This Navy Strength Gin is also excellent for a classic Dry Martini, where its intense juniper character really comes into its own. Cocktails such as the Aviation or a gin-based take on the Mint Julep also benefit from the high ABV and the pronounced botanical profile.
