Planteray Rum BARBADOS Single Cask Oloroso Barrel 2017 49.7% vol. 0.7 l is a limited-edition rum from Barbados, part of the exclusive Planteray Single Cask Collection 2026. This special rum is produced from sugar cane molasses at the historic West Indies Rum Distillery, where the molasses is first fermented for two to three days and then distilled using the column still method. Distilled in 2017, the rum is initially matured for three years under tropical conditions in ex-bourbon casks, before being stored for a further four years and four months in Ferrand casks in France. It derives its distinctive character from a final 16-month finish in a former Oloroso sherry cask. After a total of eight years and eight months of cask maturation, this special edition is available at 49.7% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle with a gift box.

The Planteray Rum brand, formerly Plantation Rum, belongs to the French spirits house Maison Ferrand and, under the guidance of Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, is renowned for its exceptional cask combinations. The Planteray Barbados 2017 Oloroso Barrel is characterised by its three-stage maturation process, in which the final Oloroso sherry cask finish plays a decisive role. The casks, previously filled with Spanish Oloroso sherry, bring additional influences to the composition and complement the long maturation in Bourbon and Ferrand casks. With a dosage of just 2 g of sugar per litre and its carefully selected casks, this bottling is one of the most exceptional rarities in the Planteray Single Cask series. The combination of tropical maturation in Barbados, continental cask ageing in France and a Spanish sherry cask finish makes this limited-edition Barbados rum an intriguing discovery for connoisseurs of exceptional cask-aged spirits.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm amber with golden highlights.

Nose: Elegant dried fruit, toasted nuts, creamy vanilla, delicate caramel and spicy oak notes.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced, with juicy raisins, dark caramel, toasted almonds, delicate vanilla and a pleasant sherry spice.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious, with nutty Oloroso nuances, subtle oak spice and a delicate fruity sweetness.

The Planteray Barbados 2017 Oloroso Barrel is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass, so that the different influences of the three cask maturations can unfold. A few drops of still water can further highlight the fruity and spicy facets. As a culinary accompaniment, mature Manchego, tangy Comté or roasted almonds harmonise beautifully with the characteristic sherry and oak notes. Dark chocolate, walnut cake or desserts with caramelised dried fruit also make for an interesting pairing.
