Planteray Rum JAMAICA VRW Single Cask Chardonnay Barrel 2023 43.8% ABV 0.7 l is a limited-edition rum from Jamaica, part of the exclusive Planteray Single Cask Collection 2026. This exceptional rum is produced from sugar cane molasses at the historic Long Pond Distillery, where the molasses is first fermented for two weeks and then distilled using the classic pot still method. The designation VRW stands for a traditional distillate marking used by the Jamaican distillery. Distilled in 2023, this rum is matured exclusively under continental conditions in France, spending two years and two months in Ferrand casks before undergoing a final eleven-month finish in a former Chardonnay wine cask. After a total of around three years’ ageing, this special edition is available at 43.8% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle with a gift box.

The Planteray Rum brand, formerly Plantation Rum, belongs to the French spirits house Maison Ferrand and, under the guidance of Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, is renowned for its exceptional cask combinations. The Planteray Jamaica VRW 2023 Chardonnay Barrel is characterised by its long fermentation, traditional pot-still distillation and unusual Chardonnay finishing. Unlike many Caribbean rums, this bottling does not undergo tropical cask ageing. The Chardonnay finish complements the characteristic style of the Long Pond Distillery with additional influences from French wine casks. With a dosage of 0 g of sugar per litre and an ester content of 152 g/hl of pure alcohol, this Jamaican single cask rum retains its distinctive character. Tasting Note

Colour: Warm gold with pale amber highlights.

Nose: Grilled pineapple, ripe banana, fresh apple and citrus zest, accompanied by almonds, creamy butter, subtle waxy notes and hints of minerality.

Palate: Full-bodied and creamy, with juicy orange, ripe peach, melon, delicate vanilla and buttery nuances, complemented by a subtle smoky spice.

Finish: Long-lasting and complex, with dark chocolate, toasted almonds, caramel, dried figs and spicy notes of cloves.

The Planteray Jamaica VRW 2023 Chardonnay Barrel is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass, so that the characteristic fruit and oak notes can unfold. A few drops of still water can further highlight the complex aromas resulting from pot-still distillation and Chardonnay ageing. As a culinary accompaniment, mature Comté, mild Brie or roasted almonds harmonise beautifully with the rum’s creamy and spicy facets.
