Description
Gérard Bertrand LA CLAPE An1650 2024 14% ABV 0.75 l online kaufen
The Gérard Bertrand La Clape An1650 2024 is a full-bodied French red wine from the La Clape AOP in Languedoc, blended from the Mediterranean grape varieties Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre. The name ‘An1650’ pays homage to the long history of winegrowing and trade in the Narbonne area: as far back as antiquity, the Greeks developed the region into a major centre for viticulture, whilst the maritime wine trade reached a particular heyday around 1650. In the Massif de la Clape, the grapes benefit from slow ripening and a comparatively late harvest. The grapes are not harvested until between late September and mid-October, ensuring that the grapes are ripe and concentrated. All the grapes for this La Clape red wine from Gérard Bertrand are harvested by hand and then transported to the winery in traditional harvest baskets known as ‘comportes’.
After hand-picking, the grapes are destemmed and transferred to stainless-steel tanks, where maceration takes place for around 20 to 25 days. This extended maceration aids extraction and forms the basis for the wine’s pronounced structure. The young wine is then racked and aged in wooden barrels for eight months before continuing its development. With an alcohol content of 14% in the 0.75-litre bottle, the Gérard Bertrand An1650 2024 combines the classic grape varieties of the southern French Mediterranean region with traditional hand-harvesting and careful barrel ageing. The combination of Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre, the La Clape AOP protected designation of origin and the eight-month ageing process make it a characterful example of red wines from the Languedoc.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Gérard Bertrand La Clape An1650 2024 displays a deep, intense red colour. On the nose, concentrated notes of blackcurrant jam unfold, accompanied by cocoa and subtle vanilla. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and powerful, whilst its velvety texture ensures a harmonious and supple impression. The finish is full-bodied, spicy and pleasantly long-lasting.
The Gérard Bertrand La Clape An1650 2024 pairs particularly well with rack of lamb, braised or grilled lamb, and robust meat dishes. It is also well suited to roast poultry and Mediterranean dishes featuring herbs and toasted flavours. For a cheese platter, creamy and aromatic cheeses that can hold their own against the wine’s robust structure are particularly recommended. The ideal serving temperature is 18 °C.
