Description
Isle of Raasay 5-Year-Old Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Single Malt 59.9% ABV 0.7l in a gift box online kaufen
The Isle of RAASAY 5 Years Old Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Single Malt 59.9% is a powerful Hebridean single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Raasay Distillery, which, as a single cask bottling, was matured entirely in a first-fill Bordeaux red wine cask. Peated single malt was used for this bottling, combining robust smokiness with the intense influence of the red wine cask. The high-quality Bordeaux casks come from châteaux in south-west France and are made from European oak. During maturation, they impart tannins, dark fruit and spicy wood notes to the whisky. The distillery on the small Isle of Raasay, off the coast of the Isle of Skye, is the island’s first legal whisky distillery and combines its maritime heritage with an unusually diverse cask management programme.
After 5 years of maturation, the whisky is bottled at a robust 59.9 per cent, at natural cask strength. This particular bottling comes from Bordeaux Red Wine Cask No. 18/721 and forms part of the Na Sia Single Cask Series, which individually showcases the various cask components that make up the distinctive Raasay style. The whisky is not chill-filtered and is bottled without colouring, meaning that its colour and character derive exclusively from the distillate and cask maturation. Dark berries, dried fruit and spicy oak meet pronounced peaty smoke and maritime notes. Presented in a 0.7-litre bottle with a gift box, this Isle of Raasay Single Cask whisky is of particular interest to connoisseurs of intense, smoky and wine-cask-matured Scotch whiskies.
Tasting Note
Colour: Dark copper to reddish amber.
Nose: Intense wood smoke with dark berries, plums and dried fruit, accompanied by spicy oak and maritime notes.
Palate: Powerful and full-bodied with dark fruits, raisins and a spicy red wine cask character, complemented by peaty smoke, mineral notes and a delicately astringent tannin structure.
Finish: Long-lasting and robust with smoke, dark fruit, spicy oak and salty, maritime nuances.
The Isle of Raasay 5 Years Old Bordeaux Red Wine Cask is best enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C; however, due to its high cask strength, a few drops of still water can bring out additional fruity and smoky notes. Dark chocolate, strong hard cheese or smoked meat pair particularly well with the interplay of Bordeaux fruit and peaty smoke. Desserts featuring dark berries, plums or dried fruit also harmonise well with the intense cask influence. For a whisky tasting, this bottling is particularly well suited for comparison with other Na Sia Single Cask bottlings from rye or chinkapin oak casks.
