Jack Daniel's Tennessee Sour Mash Whisky 40% is the classic expression of the historic Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is recognised worldwide as representing an unmistakable American whisky style. It is produced using the traditional sour mash process, in which part of the fermented mash from a previous batch is used for the next batch. A particularly defining feature is the so-called Lincoln County Process: before barrel ageing, the freshly distilled whisky is slowly filtered through a thick layer of sugar maple charcoal. This ‘Charcoal Mellowing’ gives Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey its smooth, rounded character and clearly distinguishes it from classic bourbon. It is then matured in new, charred American white oak casks, which impart notes of vanilla, caramel and subtle toasted aromas.
