The Lochlea SOWING EDITION Third Crop Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 46% ABV, is the spring edition of Lochlea’s seasonal small-batch releases and marks the start of a new series of four limited editions in 2024. With these bottlings, the Scottish distillery showcases its distinctive house style from different perspectives each year. For the Sowing Edition Third Crop 2024, Lochlea relies exclusively on 100% fresh first-fill ex-bourbon casks, allowing the natural, fruity character of the single malt to come through particularly clearly. Compared to the previous Sowing Edition Second Crop, the maturation period has been extended by around nine months, lending the Third Crop additional depth without losing its fresh and lively style.


At 46% ABV, the Lochlea Sowing Edition Third Crop combines floral and fruity notes with the characteristic freshness of consistent first-fill bourbon cask maturation. Almond, rose petals and white pepper characterise the opening, before a particularly pronounced apple blossom develops on the palate. Fresh grass and warm Stroh in the finish echo the agricultural character of the Sowing series and ensure a natural, clean finish. As a 2024 Limited Edition, this bottling stands out clearly from the regular Lochlea range. The 0.7-litre bottle, presented in a gift box, combines a seasonal distillery concept, pure bourbon cask maturation and an elegant, fresh Lowland single malt Scotch whisky to create a characterful collector’s item and a whisky to be savoured.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Delicate and elegant with notes of almonds, rose petals and white pepper.

Palate: Fresh and lively with an intense note of apple blossom, accompanied by subtle spice and a gentle bourbon cask sweetness.

Finish: Lingering and natural, with notes of fresh grass, warm Stroh and a subtly spicy freshness.

The Lochlea Sowing Edition Third Crop is at its best enjoyed neat at room temperature or with a few drops of still water. It pairs well with mild hard cheese, roasted almonds or air-dried ham, which beautifully complement its floral and spicy facets. Apple tart, almond biscuits or light vanilla desserts also harmonise superbly with the fresh bourbon cask style. In a nosing glass, the delicate notes of apple blossom, almond and grass develop particularly beautifully.
